One UCLA player was selected in Thursday’s 2021 MLS Draft, with versatile player Eric Iloski getting the call by the Vancouver Whitecaps with the No. 46 overall pick (No. 19 of the 2nd round).

Iloski played three seasons for the Bruins, making 52 appearances and scoring three goals and eight assists. A three-time All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention, Iloski played nearly every outfield position during his college tenure to date. He did not feature in the 2020 season, of course, because the fall season was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Iloski is one of three brothers who have all played for UCLA, and older brother Brian is a professional player, currently at second-division Orange County SC.

Vancouver are going into their third season under head coach Marc Dos Santos. The club has some promise, but they’ve struggled mightily of late, and it’s hard to tell if Iloski has a better or worse shot of potentially earning a professional contract with the team as a result. Time will tell on that front.

Congratulations to Eric on being drafted, and good luck in pursuing a pro career.
