UCLA Softball Run Rules San Diego State 14 -0 (5)

UCLA finished the homestand with a mid-week game against San Diego State (5-0) where UCLA Alum, Hall of Famer Stacey Nuveman Deniz is "head coach in waiting".

Coach Kelly Inouye Perez started the Non-Garcia pitching lineup with Seneca Curo (0-2, BB) hitting in place of Rachel Garcia.

Megan Faraimo (3-0, 0.78 ERA) dominated completing a perfect game (5 innings, 5K) lowering her season ERA to 0.61.

Maggie Balint (2-0, 0.50 ERA) got the start for San Diego St. but was chased (1 2/3 innings, 6 H, 8 R, 3 BB) in the bottom of the 2nd. Karina Faasisilia (2-0, 0.0 ERA) entered in relief only to be chased (2/3 inning, 5 H, 4 R) in the bottom of the 3rd. Hannah Johnson (1-0, 3.50 ERA) finished (1 2/3 innings, 3 H, 2 R, 1 K). The Bruins raised the Aztecs team ERA from 1.00 to 3.84 in one game.

UCLA’s offense came alive (.560 BA, 14 H, 14 R 13 RBIs, 3 HRs). Offensively, starters Briana Perez (2/2 2 R, 3 RBI, SF), Delanie Wisz (2/3, 2 R, 4 RBI, 2 HR), Alyssa Garcia (2/2, 1 R, 1 RBI) and Kinsley Washington (3/3, 2 R, 1 RBI, 3 Doubles) appeared to be in mid-season form.

Notes and Observations.

Maya Brady (1-2, BB) returned to action, but Rachel Garcia still held out for injury.

Lauren Carter (1/1, 2 R, 2 RBI, HR) hit a home run in her first at bat as a Bruin.

Strange play in the bottom of the first. Brady singled with 2 out and tried to bait a throw as she rounded first. Wisz left 3rd trying score as Brady got into a run down. Wisz was thrown out heading back to 3rd.

Another strange play in the bottom of the 2nd cost Kelly Godin (1/2, 2 R) a single as she bunted and Curo tried to score from third and was easily out at home.

Not to be left out, down 3-0 the Aztecs threw a 2 out ground ball to home instead of tagging 1st. Godin was safe at home and the Bruins scored another 5 runs.

Next Games: at Farrington Stadium, Tempe AZ.
