Misery Index Week 6: At a loss in Los Angeles

Hey Dan G. and Block, do you still think any press is good press?

Men's Soccer - The Only Ranking that Matters!

1

Despite UCLA's inconsistent (and convenient) use of an opinion poll (Top Drawer vs. College Soccer News) to cite it's team's rank in it's website articles, the only rank that is of importance and credible is it's RPI. At this particular juncture, UCLA RPI stands at a lowly 41. For those of you that don't know, RPI is used for both tournament selection and seeding and factors things in such as strength of schedule and match results incurred at home or on the road. The above link is an unofficial RPI ranking (as the NCAA doesn't begin to publish the official RPI until later this month). However some hardcore college fan and statistician spends a great deal of time updating this index almost in real time and when compared to the NCAA's will closely mirror the official index. For example, prior to last night's U-Dub's loss to Stanford, UCLA's RPI was at 27. After the U-Dub's match result was posted, the Bruins' rank fell to 41 (which only highlights the penalty of losing to U-Dub at home by such a significant margin)! If the tournament selection process was to occur today, UCLA would be on the proverbial bubble and at serious risk of missing the tournament in over 30+ years. (presuming the lack of a conference title) It's not my attempt to cry wolf here but the Bruins need to wake up and wake up fast. A road win against a higher ranked RPI team in SDSU this weekend would be a great start with RPI bonus points to be had (i.e. a road win against a higher RPI ranked opponent). Consider also the team's opportunity to regain some ground by garnering bonus RPI by getting results on the road vs. Washington (RPI #18), Stanford (RPI #27), and Cal (RPI #36). This will be a tall order but the Bruins have been in recent years a good road team. But man there is some risk here should the team falter. Hoping for the best....Go Bruins!

UCLA #4 for most overrated college football jobs? Have I told you guys how much I hate USATODAY?

BOOM! 3* JUCO LB Cassius Peat (Brother of Stanford's Andrus Peat) Commits to the Bruins

2

He was a Bruin commit in the 2015 recruiting class but flipped to Michigan State on signing day. After academic troubles at MSU, he has been studying at JUCO and apparently improved enough academically to receive an offer from CJM and staff. His brother Andrus Peat was one of the key pieces of the defense in his time at Stanford.

Saturday, ESPN compared Josh Rosen's mustache to former NY Giant Jeff Hostetler's mustache. The resemblance is uncanny. Thanks to Instagram user jeff_hostetler (not the same guy) for sharing!
