Poll Watch: UCLA's Revenue Sports Fail To Achieve Excellence

Neither UCLA Football nor UCLA Men's Basketball managed to dent the top-25 in the most recent set of national polls, though UCLA Women's Basketball climbed four spots to #20 in the latest AP poll.

Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

If it weren't for UCLA Women's Basketball, this would be the first time in the 2015-16 season in which UCLA didn't have at least one of its teams in the top-25 in the latest set of national polls. Significantly, neither UCLA Football nor UCLA Men's Basketball make an appearance in either the AP Poll or the USA Today Coaches Poll this week.

Two months ago, the OC Register had a feature on Dan Guerrero entitled "UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero won't change his successful, criticized ways." A caption under a photo of Dan Guerrero posing in from of some of UCLA's national championship trophies read "UCLA has won 26 national championships during the 13-year tenure of Dan Guerrero, although his critics would point out that none of those have come in football or men's basketball."

Thanks to Coach Adam Wright and the amazing student-athletes on UCLA's Men's Water Polo team, UCLA won its 27th national championship of the Guerrero era on Sunday, but that shouldn't shield Dan Guerrero from criticism of his utter failure to develop elite football and men's basketball programs during his tenure. For what it's worth, a full third of UCLA's national championships under Guerrero's watch have been in water polo.

I'll leave it to Bruins Nation readers to decide if the current state of UCLA Football and Men's Basketball is acceptable. Is "good" good enough as far as you're concerned?
