"Never mistake activity for achievement." - John Wooden
"Be quick, but don't hurry." - John Wooden
Most of us know at least a few Woodenisms and are readily able to identify many more when we came across them. This is one of the first that I learned, and it remains a favorite:
"Be true to yourself.
Make each day your masterpiece.
Help others.
Drink deeply from good books.
Make friendship a fine art.
Build a shelter against a rainy day.
Pray for guidance and give thanks for your blessings every day." - John Wooden
But Coach isn't the only Bruin to have said or written something memorable. Consider a few examples of the wit, wisdom and weirdness of some former Bruin student-athletes:
"You really are never playing an opponent. You are playing yourself." - Arthur Ashe
"For the truth to win, you have to want to know the truth, and not many people have the appetite." - Chris Kluwe
"I am a tree that smells colors." - Bill Walton
In this week's quiz, you'll be asked to identify the sources of some well-known and a few not-so-well-known quotes from UCLA athletes, coaches, and administrators. Although I've tried to add more easy questions to the mix this week, the quiz is challenging nevertheless, so a final score of 15 or more (out of 20) should be considered an excellent result.
Enjoy the quiz, good luck, and as always, Go BRUINS!
