What's Bruin in 3....2....1....
---
Football
Kicking things off with some football, apparently Angus McClure was "aggressively pursued by Nebraska" Coach Mike Riley (not currently under firewall) for an open defensive line position according to Bruin Report Online's Tracy Pierson. McClure has been at UCLA for a long while since the Papa Neu days so I didn't see him leaving for an even tougher gig at Nebraska. The article mentions he agreed to terms with UCLA so I think that means pay raise!
TWWL has an article on what UCLA must do "to catch Stanford." Nothing Earth shattering here: Rosen is good, wide receivers are unproven, and recruiting is good. So, what's holding them back? I don't know but it must be coaching.
I'm so sick of winter over here so let's look ahead to spring. TWWL combines a way-too-early-top25 list with the biggest question each team has coming into Spring. Kind of a bummer that UCLA is all the way down to #21 but with an 8-6 record from last year you can't really argue they should be any higher.
Still want more football? Check out GBruin's notes on the Bruins in the combine.
Baseball
I haven't see or hear them play yet but reading the game thread comments does paint a grim picture to the Bruins' start of the season. Last night, the Bruins were demolished by CSULB by nine runs, falling 10-1. The DailyBruin recaps that the Dirtbags jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Let's hope Coach Savage can work some magic and get the team back on track on Friday against Cal Poly SLO.
Women's Golf
The #4 Women's Golf team was in New Orleans on Monday and Tuesday playing in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate. After the first day, only freshman Lilian Vu was under par and, as a team, the Bruins were tied for 12th. They did better on day two and ended up tied for 6th which shot a 2-over 290 as a team and ended up at +17 (881).
