How to Watch Cincinnati Bearcats at UCLA Bruins: Game Time, TV Schedule, Radio and More

The Bearcats visit the Bruins at the Rose Bowl this afternoon in UCLA’s 100th season opener.

NCAA Football: UCLA-Head Coach Chip Kelly Press Conference Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

On November 27, 2017, the UCLA Bruins formally introduced Chip Kelly as the Bruins’ announced as the 17th head coach in program history. The day we have all waited for since then is finally here. The Cincinnati Bearcats are in town for the first game of the Chip Kelly era, it’s also the first game of the 100th season of UCLA football.

In the first 99 seasons, UCLA’s record is 577-399-37 in 1,013 games. That’s good for a .588 winning percentage.

But, more important, it’s a new day for Bruin football.

Kelly has brought his “Win the day” and “Tempo” philosophies with him, which means that we should see a better brand of Bruin football and it all starts today.

Keys to the Game

  1. What will the Bruin offense look like? While Spring Practice and the Spring Game gave us a glimpse of UCLA’s new offense, the entire team has basically been under wraps since the start of training camp on August 1st. We know that graduate transfer Wilton Speight will start today’s game, but no one except the players and coaches has really seen what the offense will look like since April 21st. We do know this: It will be run at a fast pace as Kelly will look to run as many plays as possible throughout the game. That gives the Bruins more chances to score, even if it leaves the defense on the field longer.
  2. How improved is the defense? Let’s be honest. Last year, the defense was so bad that almost anything would be an improvement. But, for the Bruins to consistenly win this season, the defense will need to be improved significantly. New defensive coordinator has insisted that things on defense will be done his way. Considering the fact that the Bruins lost Josh Woods, one of their starting inside linebackers, to a knee injury in training camp concerns continue to linger over the defense.
  3. There’s a renewed emphasis on special teams. Frequently, during the Jim Mora era, special teams seemed like an afterthought — something to be done at the end of practice. It was an indication that practice was almost over. The new staff has placed an emphasis on special teams. Why? For the same reason that the team operates under the “Tempo” philosophy — it gives them another area where they can outperform their opponents, making it easier to win.
