It seems like forever since UCLA last played some football. That’s probably due to the fact that the team has played only one game in almost three weeks and the one game was a Thursday night game.

But, the extra time off didn’t help the team play a better against Colorado and, today, the team hosts Oregon State, which might just be the last team on the schedule UCLA has the capability of beating.

But, after watching the Colorado game, even that seems like less of a sure thing.

Let’s look at the keys to this week’s game.

1. Keep the Punter Off the Field

At this point, it doesn’t really matter how UCLA moves the ball. They just need to move the ball downfield. If this game becomes a punt fest, Oregon State might stick around long enough to win. But, if UCLA is able to keep the punter off the field then, sooner or later, they’ll score enough to put the Beavers away.

2. Unleash the Kraken!

OSU’s QB situation is worse than ours. They are down to their third-stringer. By pressuring the QB, specifically with Takkarist McKinley, the Bruin defense should force Marcus McMaryion into making mistakes. Which brings us to the third key....

3. Get The Ball Back

It doesn’t matter how, but, with OSU starting their third-string QB, the most likely way is to intercept the ball. Of course, that’s no guarantee that the team is going to get the ball into the end zone, as we saw against Colorado. But Oregon State is no Colorado and, if UCLA is successful at keeping the punter off the field, it means they’re capitalizing on scoring opportunities.

In short, these three keys would likely result in UCLA’s most complete game of the season. And, if they can’t, the Bruins’ bad season might just get worse.
