The notion that this UCLA team could contend for the Pac-12 South title was nice while it lasted.
After receiving the opening kickoff, the Bruins managed to drive done the field to the Utah 3-yard line before a pair of sacks by the Utes forced a field goal by JJ Molson gave UCLA a 3-0 lead.
That was basically the lone highlight for UCLA offensively.
UCLA did have five other drives but they ended in an interception, a missed field goal attempt, a fumble returned for a Utah touchdown, a punt, and the end of the first half.
Meanwhile, the Utes’ offense managed to put up 21 points in addition to the defensive TD. The only Ute drive which didn’t end in a touchdown occurred when Otito Ogbonnia knocked a ball out of the hands of Demari Simpkins, but that only led to the missed field goal try.
Welcome back to reality, Bruins. Maybe the second half will get better, but it’s going to take a Washington State-like miracle to pull this one out.
