Bruin Bites - Alamo Bowl Gameday Edition and Friday Bowl Open Thread

The Bruins are just a few hours away from taking the field for the final time in the 2014 season, while several other bowl games go on throughout the country today.

Gameday is finally here. In just over 4 hours, the Bruins will take the field for the last time this season - and the last appearance in the blue and gold for Brett Hundley, Eric Kendricks and several other graduating seniors on the squad. Here's to watching them finish their careers in Westwood on a high note tonight against Kansas State.

Jack Wang noted a few things to watch for during today's game on his Daily News blog, and wrote a bit on Mora and Snyder in today's column at the Daily News. SI.com's Alamo Bowl preview notes that Kansas State has not beaten any teams in the final regular season top-25, and that star receiver Tyler Lockett's biggest individual performances have come in games that the Wildcats lost. And looking ahead to next fall, Chris Foster quotes several Bruins emphasizing that even with Brett moving on, 2015 will not be a rebuilding year and that achieving success next season will not be a problem.

If you haven't done so already, please make sure to read the excellent Q&A series that we did with Bring on the Cats.

Though the opening round of the playoff along with the other 'big 6' bowl games have been completed, there are still other games being played today. Right now, Pittsburgh is in the closing stages of beating Houston in the Armed Forces Bowl (ESPN) while Iowa and Tennessee are scheduled to kickoff the Taxslayer Bowl right now (ESPN - coverage starting at the end of the Armed Forces Bowl). After the Bruins and Wildcats finish in San Antonio, the Cactus Bowl will begin, pitting Washington and Oklahoma State.

This is your open thread for today's non-UCLA bowl games as well as your pregame thoughts on the Bruins and KSU Wildcats.

GO BRUINS!
