UCLA Bruins at Stanford Cardinal Game Thread

As the Bruins head to Northern California, can UCLA extend their winning streak to five games?

NCAA Basketball: UCLA at Stanford John Hefti-USA TODAY Sports

Tonight’s game should be one of the easier conference road games. That’s because, under second-year coach Jerod Haase, Stanford just isn’t a very good basketball team. Last year, Stanford finished the regular season 14-16 overall and 6-12 in conference.

This year’s Cardinal team had a slightly worse record in non-conference play. While last year, they were 8-4 in non-conference action, this year, the Cardinal was only 6-7. So, it’s possible that the Cardinal may be regressing.

It’s not what you would expect from a team coached by a guy whose pedigree include time at both Kansas and North Carolina.

Stanford seems to count on feeding their big man Reid Travis. Look for Steve Alford to put Thomas Welsh in charge of shutting Travis down while also looking to make Welsh a big part of the Bruin offense tonight. As long as Welsh wins this battle on both sides of the court, the Bruins should come away with a relatively easy road win.
