Can the Bruins turn things around this afternoon in Chicago?

NCAA Basketball: UCLA at Cincinnati Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

This afternoon, the UCLA men’s basketball team will face #15 Ohio State in the CBS Sports Classic at the United Center in Chicago.

After consecutive losses to Belmont and Cincinnati, most Bruin fans seem prepared to just forget about basketball until Steve Alford is replaced.

Frankly, I don’t blame them and wish I could join them. No self-respecting Bruin fans wants to watch a Steve Alford-coached team. While many, myself included, are quick to point out that he never should have been hired in the first place by a panicked UCLA Athletic Department, if you look strictly at the team on the court, Alford should have been fired after he had a losing record in the 2015-16 season.

Will Alford make it to the new year? Probably. Should he? No.

And, I fully expect today’s game to be another demonstration of that.
