Tonight, the UCLA Bruins face the Utah Runnin’ Utes in Salt Lake City as the Bruins begin their Mountain school road trip. As UCLA begins this trip, the Bruins are still on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament.
The good news, of course, is that, if the Bruins can win their three remaining regular season games, they will improve their chances of making the tournament significantly. The flip side, of course, is that any loss by the Bruins will significantly hurt their chances of making the tournament.
The problem for UCLA are the facts that Utah plays well at home where they are 7-3 so far this year and that UCLA does not play well on the road. The Bruins are just 2-5 on the road this year.
So, it will almost certainly be a tough game for the Bruins. Can they manage to win tonight’s game? Well, they certainly have an little bit more incentive this afternoon as there is breaking news that Arizona’s Allonzo Trier has been ruled ineligible by the NCAA due to a failed January drug test. As such, Trier will not play tonight against Oregon State, increasing the possibility that the Wildcats could lose two games this week and next.
So, obviously, UCLA needs a win even more now as their chances of winning the Pac-12 regular season title just increased.
