This evening, the UCLA basketball team opens Pac-12 play in Seattle against the Washington Huskies at 7 pm PT.

The Huskies opened the season with a 10-3 mark. Washington’s only losses so far came against Tennessee to start the season, Gonzaga and Houston. Despite that, the Huskies are not in either Top 25 poll.

Unlike the Bruins, who head coach Mick Cronin said are trying to find guys who can get defensive stops, the Huskies have settled in to a rotation of about eight guys. Four of those eight guys are averaging in double figures.

Freshman forward Isaiah Stewart leads the team with an average of 19.2 points per game while Jaden McDaniels, another freshman forward, is second with an average of 14.3. Guard Nahziah Carter is third and is averaging 13 and while Washington’s other starting guard Quade Green has been averaging 11.5 per night. The Huskies’ fifth starter is junior forward Hameir Wright.

Of Washington’s three reserves in are in their rotation, Jamal Bay sees the most time with an average of 23 minutes per game, despite averaging just 5.7 points and 2.2 rebounds. Sam Timmons and Elijah Hardy round out the rotation.

While the Huskies aren’t in the Top 25, they are just outside it. If you combine that with the fact that they are playing at home, it’s a recipe for a big win by Washington. There is just no way to put a positive spin on it. In fact, I’d be surprised if the Huskies don’t win by at least 15 points tonight.
