Well, tonight’s match promises to be a doozy between UCLA and BYU. The team playing in its home arena has won each of the three matches between the schools so far this year.
The Bruins have won all 10 previous semifinal matches that they’ve played in Pauley Pavilion. UCLA is 18-1 at home this season with the only loss coming against Long Beach State on February 21.
The key to tonight’s match for the Bruins appears to be having a higher hitting percentage than the Cougars. That’s because UCLA is 25-1 in matches where they have a better hitting percentage than their opponents. The only loss in a match where the Bruins had a better hitting percentage came against Southern Cal.
Meanwhile, UCLA has lost every match they played this year where their hitting percentage was lower than their opponents.
Of course, the easiest way to maintain a high hitting percentage is to avoid making mistakes.
That can be easier said than done, but that’s what needs to happen in order for UCLA to win and head to Saturday’s National Championship match.
I would be surprised if this match doesn’t go five sets, but I would be utterly shocked if the Bruins don’t win this match tonight.
This is your UCLA Bruins vs. BYU Cougars NCAA Volleyball Semifinals open thread.
Go Bruins!!!
