UCLA Men’s Volleyball Hosts Concordia in Final Home Match of the Season

UCLA needs to win tonight to keep their hopes of winning the MPSF alive.

Micah Ma’a became the all-time UCLA aces leader with 198 during Sunday’s match against GCU. Tonight, he joins the other seniors in his final home match.

Tonight, the UCLA men’s volleyball team plays their final regular season home match when they welcome the Concordia Eagles to Pauley Pavilion at 7 pm PT. Since it’s the final regular season home match, that also means that it is Senior Night and seniors Jonah Kay, Spencer Sachs, Micah Ma’a and Dylan Missry will be honored.

Last Time Out

On Sunday, the Bruins easily defeated Grand Canyon University, 3-1, although they probably should have been able to sweep.

UCLA won the first set, 25-18. The Bruins started the set with three consecutive points and the Antelopes never got any closer than two points down.

The second set started almost identically, but with GCU on the scoring end. The Antelopes scored the first three points of this set and the closest the Bruins ever got was two points down.

GCU started strong again in set three, going up 4-1 early, but UCLA used a 5-2 run to tie it at 6-6. With the set tied 11-11, the Bruins scored on consecutive points for their first lead and it was 13-11. It was short-lived, however, as a 7-2 run by the Antelopes put GCU back on top, 18-15. UCLA was able to close out the set by winning 10 of the final 15 points, earning a 25-23 win in the set.

The fourth set started off looking like it was going to be an easy set for the Bruins as UCLA took a 7-3 lead after ten points. By GCU slowly worked their way back into the set and tied it back up at 15-15 and even taking an 18-17 lead, but a 6-1 run by the Bruins proved to be too much for the Antelopes and UCLA won this set, 25-22, and the match, 3-1.

Concordia Eagles

Like GCU, the Eagles have not won an MPSF match on the road all year. There’s no reason to believe that they are going to start now. The Bruins swept Concordia in Irvine in February and I’d be shocked if the Eagles win a set tonight.

This is your UCLA vs. Concordia men’s volleyball open thread.

Go Bruins!!!
