When former Chicago Cubs shortstop Ernie Banks famously uttered, “It’s a great day for a ball game; let’s play two!”, I’m not sure he ever envisioned a situation like today.
Today, the UCLA Bruins have the opportunity to add two more NCAA titles to the 113 the school already has. First, the UCLA Women’s Soccer team will battle Stanford for 114 in the Women’s College Cup.
Then, at 3 pm PT this afternoon, the UCLA Men’s Water Polo team takes to the pool against the Southern Cal Trojans with another national championship on the line.
This is the fourth meeting of the season between these two squads.
In the first meeting, UCLA won the game 13-11 at the end of September. Three weeks ago, UCLA defeated the Trojans again. This time, it was 12-11 and the Bruins needed to score in sudden victory to win that one. Then, two weeks ago, the teams met in the MPSF Championship and Southern Cal won, 7-5.
Of course, the big question is “Assuming the Bruins win the Men’s Water Polo title, will that be NC #114 or NC #115?” The answer to that won’t be known until the completion of the Women’s College Cup Final.
Go Bruins! Bring home NC #114 and NC #115!
