Well, the first half of “Double Championship Sunday” didn’t go the way we hoped. As a result of that game, UCLA no longer has the most NCAA titles.
But, the Men’s Water Polo team has an opportunity to tie things back up again if they can win the NCAA Men’s Water Polo Championship Game. That’s the good news.
If that’s not enough for you, then we’ll just add in the fact that this afternoon’s game is against crosstown rival Southern Cal and it will be played at their place because they are hosting this year’s NCAA Water Polo Tournament.
Whenever these two teams get into the pool, it’s a hard-fought battle, just as you would expect. So far this year, the Bruins have beaten the Trojans twice while losing in the most recent game in the MPSF Tournament.
Southern Cal made today’s game with a big comeback win over defending champion UC Berkeley. The Trojans were down 10-7 with 2:37 left in the third quarter, but they came back to tie with 3:50 to go in the game and then took the lead with just 2:32 left.
Of course, I want the Bruins to win today, but, honestly, I don’t know who will win because this one is going to be a knockdown, dragout for the championship. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this game go into sudden victory overtime.
This is your Men’s Water Polo National Championship game thread.
Go Bruins!!!
