A week after the big win in Lincoln over Nebraska, the Bruins are facing off against the New Mexico State Aggies in the Rose Bowl. The score at the end of the first half is 31-0
The first half started out with a huge kickoff return by Steven Manfro and followed with a tribute to Nick Pasquale by running the first offensive play with only 10 men on the field. The second play was a fumble by Jordan James to give the Aggies the ball. It didn't end up hurting UCLA as the defense bent a little but didn't break. UCLA then preceded to drive down the field, converting three third downs, before Brett Hundley threw an inexcusable interception in the redzone. Never took his eyes of Thomas Duarte.
A quick three-and-out gave UCLA great field position and they capitalized with a few passes and a short TD run by James. The Bruins would also score on their next four possessions, with a impressive catch and run by Manfro on a swing pass and a 12-yard carry by Manfro. The third drive of the half was killed by stupid penalties and ended with FG by Ka'imi Fairbairn. UCLA would drive down to close out the half with a pair of pretty passes by Hundley to Devin Fuller.
On the defensive side the storylines are the overaggressiveness across the board, the big interception and 52-yard return by Ishmael Adams and the outstanding play of Randall Goforth and Cassius Marsh.
Looking forward to what will hopefully be a much crisper and penalty-free second half.
Go Bruins!
