Another week. Another game. Another expected loss? Maybe.
But, today’s game is winnable. What exactly makes it winnable? Well, how about the fact that Stanford Cardinal beat the Oregon Ducks by 42 points, 49-7, while only beating the Bruins by 24? At the very least, this is the UCLA Bruins’ most winnable game until their next home game. Let’s look at the keys to the game.
Keys to the Game
1. Stop Royce Freeman. There is little doubt about had bad the Bruin rushing defense has been. But, just to remind you, I offer this tweet from ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura.
UCLA is allowing 6.57 yards per rush this season. In the last 14 years, no Power 5 program has allowed more. 2nd worst: 6.17 ypc.

So, in other words, the second worst is almost a half a yard better than this year’s UCLA team. Ouch.
Meanwhile, Freeman needs just 57 yards rushing to become the 22nd player in FBS history to rush for 5,000 yards. Can the Bruins stop him? Personally, I doubt it, but, if they can, they very well could win the game.
2. Make offensive plays early and often. After having a torrid second half against A&M and game against Hawai’i, the offense seems to be sputtering a little. Is it because defenses have figured out how to stop the Bruins? Perhaps. But, if the offense can put up more than 40 points, they’ve got a chance to win without Rosen being forced to play hero ball.
3. Keep the ball off the ground. It’s hard to win when you turn over the ball like UCLA did last weekend. UCLA needs to find a way to win the takeaway game.
