The UCLA Softball team remains undefeated heading into this weekend’s Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic I.

On Thursday, the Bruins defeated Fordham, 4-0 to win their sixth game of the young season. Now, the Bruins head into the diciest part of their schedule as UCLA will play their next 23 games away from Easton Stadium. Not all of those games are road games. In fact, only 6 of them are road games. The other 17 games are being played at neutral sites.

Tonight’s game is the first of five neutral site games that will make up the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic I from now through Monday.

Meanwhile, on Thursday night, the Bruin offense cooled off a little after a torrid start last weekend.

Sure, the Bruins still got on the scoreboard first, but they didn’t score until the 3rd inning. First baseman Kinsley Washington led off the inning by reaching on an error while Briana Perez dropped a bunt to the pitcher for a single to put runners on first and second with no out. Following a wild pitch that moved the runners up, Kylee Perez singled through the right side to bring Washington home and Aaliyah Jordan’s sacrifice fly to center drove Briana Perez in to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead.

UCLA would add insurance runs in the fourth and sixth innings to increase the lead to 4-0 while Rachel Garcia pitched a complete game shutout, striking out 17 of the 22 batters she faced and only allowing one hit. Garcia is now 2-0 on the season.

While tonight’s game was scheduled for 8 pm PT, it will not begin on time, according to the UCLA Softball Twitter account.
