#3 UCLA Softball Tops Boston U. 10-2; Faces #16/19 Ohio State and Long Beach State

The Bruins had another mercy-rule win yesterday against the Terriers.

Bubba Nickles had two hits with one RBI and two runs scored against Boston U. yesterday.

Today, the UCLA Bruins play two more games in the Louisville Slugger Invitational at Long Beach State. In the first game, the Bruins will face the Ohio State Buckeyes. UCLA will face host Long Beach Ste.

Yesterday, Holly Azevedo gave up two runs on six hits and three walks with one strikeout as UCLA cruised past Boston University to move their record to 22-0.

UCLA played small ball in the first, Briana Perez singled and stole second. After Kylee Perez walked to gave the Bruins runners on first and second, a wild pitch moved the runners up. Briana scored on an Aaliyah Jordan ground out while Brianna Tautalafua drove Kylee in on a single to right to make it 2-0. Tautalafua and Bubba Nickles would also score and UCLA had a 4-0 lead after heading into the top of the second.

The Terriers got one run back in the top of the second, but UCLA responded with four more runs in the bottom half of the inning on a two-run double by Tautalafua and a two-run single by Rachel Garcia. After two, UCLA led 8-1.

Boston would add another run in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 8-2.

Malia Quarles double to left to start of the bottom of the sixth for UCLA. After Stevie Wisz pinch-ran for Quarles, Nickles drove her in with a single to left. BU pitcher Kali Magrane threw three wild pitches to three different batters that advanced Nickles to second, to third and, then, to home, giving the Bruins an eight-run lead invoking the mercy-rule and another win.

Today, the Bruins face the #16/19 Ohio State Buckeyes at 11:30, followed by a 2 pm game against the host Long Beach State 49ers as the Louisville Slugger Invitational concludes.
