Last night in Eugene, Oregon’s Miranda Ellis held the Bruins scoreless until the sixth inning. In the meantime, the Ducks scored two in the first, one in the second and two more in both the fourth and the fifth innings to take a 7-0 lead.

It proved to be a hole that not even UCLA’s potent lineup could dig themselves out from under.

That doesn’t mean they didn’t try.

In the top of the sixth, Aaliyah Jordan hit a one-out double to left and scored when Rachel Garcia homered to left center to make it 7-2.

In the top of the seventh, the Bruins continued to their comeback attempt. Kinsley Washington drew a one-out walk and Kylee Perez drew a two-out walk to give the Bruins runners of first and second. Jordan followed Perez by homering to center to cut the Ducks’ lead to just two, 7-5. Brianna Tautalafua kept the inning alive with a single to bring the tying run to the plate, but Garcia hit into a fielder’s choice for the third out to end the game.

Elish got the win for Oregon while Selina Ta’amilo took the loss.

That means that today, the Bruins and the Ducks will play the rubber game of their weekend series when they meet at 2 pm. Today’s game will also be televised on Pac-12 Networks Los Angeles, meaning that it’s a Bruin afternoon today with Women’s Water Polo at 12:30 pm followed by Softball at 2. So, if your bracket is busted, grab some snacks and watch two of UCLA’s best teams play this afternoon.

This is your UCLA Bruins at the Oregon Ducks Sunday softball open thread.

Go Bruins!!!
