Last weekend, the Bruins stayed perfect on the season at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic II. This weekend, UCLA heads down San Diego way for the San Diego Classic I where the Bruins will play again five games over three days.

Tonight, UCLA starts off the San Diego Classic with a game against the University of Central Florida.

Meanwhile, last Sunday, the Bruins swept their Sunday doubleheader by defeating Missouri, 4-0, and Fresno State, 7-3.

In the first game, the Bruins scored first in the bottom of the third when Kylee Perez singled which, drove in Kinsely Washington. Briana Perez also scored on the play after an error by Tiger catcher Hatti Moore.

While that would be all the Bruins needed, UCLA added insurance runs in the fourth and sixth innings.

Holly Azevedo started the game and pitched 3-1/3 scoreless innings, striking out five while walking two and giving up four hits. Rachel Garcia threw 3-2/3 of scoreless relief to earn her sixth win of the year.

In the second game, UCLA scored three runs in the second and added two more in the third while the Bulldogs would score one in the third and two in the fourth and UCLA led 5-3 after four. UCLA would add an insurance run in the fifth and a Briana Perez solo shot put the Bruins up, 7-3.

Starter Johanna Grauer pitched three innings, giving up three runs on four hits and a walk while striking out two, before being relieved by Selina Ta’amilo, who threw four shutout innings while allowing just one hit for the win.

As far as tonight’s opponents go, the UCF Knights lost last night to San Diego State, 3-1, but bounced back this afternoon to beat Long Beach State, 3-0. The unranked Knights are 10-7 on the season. So, look for the Bruins to dominate again.
