Rachel Garcia decided to one-up the UCLA Baseball team in last night’s UCLA Softball game. On Friday night, the Bruin Baseball team used a walk-off single in extra innings to defeat Arizona State. Last night, Garcia kept the Bruin Softball team from going to extra innings against Oregon State with a two-out walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh to win the game 3-2.

The Bruins got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the fourth inning. Bubba Nickles led off the inning and reached on an error. Three batters later, she scored on a Kinsley Washington single to left while Washington would score when Briana Perez doubled to center as UCLA took a 2-0 lead.

Oregon State got the runs back in the top of the fifth. Just like the Bruins, the Beavers’ first batter of the inning Missy Nunes reached on an error. Michelle Sass followed and hit a 2-run homer to tie the game.

That was all the scoring until the bottom of the seventh. Aaliyah Jordan led off the inning for UCLA, but she grounded out. Brianna Tautalafua followed and struck out. With the Bruins down to their final out of the inning and facing the possibility of an extra inning game, Garcia ended it with a solo shot to right center.

Garcia started the game on the mound for the Bruins where she gave up 2 runs, 1 of which was earned, on 3 hits with 6 strikeouts over 5 innings. Selina Ta’amilo (5-1) earned the win by pitching two scoreless innings with no hits, one walk and one strikeout.

The teams meet again at 6 pm this evening as the Bruins go for the series win.
