If you’ve been following the softball team so far this year, you’ve watched outstanding play and eight teams sent packing by the mercy rule. In their last outing against Santa Clara, the bats finally exploded in the sixth inning when the Bruins scored eight runs, which included a Grand Slam by sophomore Rachel Garcia. The pitcher also threw a complete game and only allowed one hit. UCLA softball has won 19 in a row so far and are now in Long Beach this weekend for the Louisville Slugger Invitational.
UCLA’s first opponent is Michigan State at 9:00 am PT this morning. The Spartans are 9-9 so far this season and their biggest bat is Kaitlyn Eveland. She is currently hitting .438 and has a .540 on base percentage. Michigan State lost three in a row earlier this week to Cal Poly and Cal State Fullerton in the Judy Garman Invitational at Cal State Fullerton. Their last win came against Stanford last Saturday.
After playing the Michigan State Spartans, the Bruins then play the other Spartans, the ones from San Jose State, who are currently 12-7 and are on a three-game win streak. Junior Madison Aurin was named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week last week for her performance, which included a complete game win over Wagner in the Louisville Slugger Tournament in Stockton last Saturday.
This is your UCLA Bruins Louisville Slugger Invitational, Day 1 open thread.
Go Bruins!
