The UCLA softball team has a week break in the Pac-12 schedule, but that doesn’t mean they have the weekend off. Instead, the Bruins will host a non-conference round-robin tournament this weekend.
Over the next two days, #1 UCLA will play the #25/21 Oklahoma State Cowgirls and the South Dakota Coyotes twice each.
Today, the Bruins start with Oklahoma State and face South Dakota in the nitecap. Tomorrow, the order is reversed.
The last time UCLA played was on Sunday when they completed a weekend sweep of the then-#1 Washington Huskies. It was another low scoring game between the two teams.
The Bruins’ only run of the game came in the fourth inning after Briana Perez led off with an infield single. Rachel Garcia followed with a walk to give UCLA runners on first and second with one out. Brianna Tautalafua flew out to right, but Perez tagged and advanced to third. Bubba Nickles singled to right to score Perez. After she scored, Garcia was thrown out at 3rd to end the inning.
Selina Ta’amilo started the game in the circle for UCLA. She pitched 51⁄3 innings and struck out four while allowing three hits and two walks for her tenth win of the season. Rachel Garcia came in to get the final five outs and two of them were strikeouts. Garcia earned her second save of the season.
This is your UCLA Softball non-conference doubleheader open thread.
Go Bruins!!!
