The UCLA softball team won its eighth in a row last night by defeating the Stanford Cardinal, 5-2. The win gave the Bruins their first win against Stanford this weekend, despite the fact that the Bruin baseball game against the Cardinal started an hour before the softball teams took the field, because the Bruin softball team disposed of the Cardinal about 20 minutes before the baseball game ended.

UCLA scored like voting in Chicago — early and often.

They got on the board in the bottom of the first when Bubba Nickles hit a two-out, two-run single through the right side which scored both Kylee Perez and Aaliyah Jordan.

Then, in the second, Taylor Pack hit a solo home run to left center to give the Bruins a 3-0 lead. Pack’s homer would end up being the game-winning hit.

UCLA added two insurance runs in the third on a pair of solo homers by Kylee Perez and Nickles.

Meanwhile, Selina Ta’amilo didn’t give up a run to the Cardinal until the fourth inning when she gave up two, one earned and one unearned. But, she shut the door after the fourth and UCLA won 5-2.

Ta’amilo won her eighth game of the season pitching a complete game and she allowed just two hits and a walk while striking out three.

This evening, UCLA goes for the series win when the teams meet again at 6pm at Easton Stadium.
