The #1 UCLA Softball team is scheduled to play its final non-conference game of the regular season tonight in Fullerton. Of course, that’s weather permitting as it is raining in parts of Southern California this afternoon, but it looks like they should be able to get tonight’s game in.
Tonight’s game should be a good one considering the fact that Cal State Fullerton has won eight games in a row while the Bruins have won ten straight including a sweep of two doubleheaders last weekend.
In Saturday’s first game, UCLA got on the board first against South Dakota when they scored four runs in the third inning. With the bases loaded, Briana Perez singled to score Taylor Pack for the Bruins’ first run. Aaliyah Jordan followed with another RBI single that scored Kinsley Washington. That would ultimately prove to be the winning run for UCLA.
The Bruins added a third run when Brianna Tautalafua walked to score Kylee Perez and Briana Perez would score UCLA’s fourth run of the inning on a Bubba Nickles sacrifice fly.
South Dakota scored their only run of the game in the top of the fourth on a homer by Jessica Rogers.
Holly Azevedo pitched a complete game to earn her fourteenth win of the season. She struck out 7 while allowing just 3 hits and 2 walks.
In the second game, UCLA defeated #21 Oklahoma State, 7-0.
Rachel Garcia struck out 18 while only allowing 1 hit and 2 walks.
The Bruins scored two runs in the first when Bubba Nickles hit an RBI single to left that scored Briana Perez and Jordan.
UCLA added four more runs in the second, starting with a homer by Madeline Jelenicki. They also scored again in the fifth.
As far as tonight’s game goes, the Bruins should come out ahead. UCLA’s team batting average is more than 50 points higher than Fullerton’s and the Bruins’ team ERA of 1.76 is less than half of the Titans’ team ERA.
This is your UCLA Bruins vs. Cal State Fullerton Titans softball open thread.
Go Bruins!!!
