UCLA Softball: Bruins Look to Take Care of Business Against Sac State

The Bruins can’t take the Hornets lightly.

Tonight, the UCLA softball team begins their path to the Women’s College World Series when they host the Sacramento State Hornets at 8 pm PT at Easton Stadium.

As we detailed earlier in the week, the Bruins are the number three seed nationally behind only the Oregon Ducks and the Florida Gators. Of course, after finishing the regular season with a record of 50-4 and being the #1 team in the country heading into last weekend, an argument could made that the Bruins should have been seeded higher, but, at this point, it doesn’t matter, other than to serve as a motivator for UCLA to prove the Selection Committee wrong.

UCLA’s first opponent in this weekend’s double-elimination regional is the Sacramento State Hornets. The Hornets made it into the field of 64 by winning the Big Sky Tournament. Not only did they win the Big Sky Tournament by defeating Northern Colorado 3-0, but they also won the Big Sky regular season title.

While it might seem like tonight’s game is a battle between David and Goliath, don’t forget that David defeated Goliath. Not only that, but Sacramento State did beat Stanford, who beat UCLA at home.

As always, tonight’s game will come down to strong pitching and strong hitting. The Bruins seem to have both. They just need to take care of business tonight at home.

This is your UCLA Bruins vs. Sacramento State Hornets NCAA LA Regional softball open thread.

Go Bruins!!! Bring home 117!!!
