Tonight, the UCLA softball team continues its weekend at Hawai’i Paradise Classic when they face the host Hawai’i Rainbow Wahine at 9pm PT.
Last Time Out
Yesterday, the Bruins opened the season by sweeping their doubleheader against UT Arlington, 2-1, and Fresno State, 8-2.
In Game 1, Briana Perez scored from second on a single to left-center by Bubba Nickles in the first inning and Nickles homered in the fourth to put UCLA up 2-0. Freshman pitcher Megan Faraimo held UT Arlington just one run over 51⁄3 innings. Rachel Garcia picked up a save by getting the final two outs.
In Game 2, Taylor Pack homered to start off a big second inning for the Bruins. After Julie Rodriguez reached on an error and advanced to second on the error, Brianna Tautalafua walked. Zoe Shaw scored Rodriguez on a single up the middle. That resulted in Kelly Flynn pinch-running for Tautalafua. Kinsley Washington doubled home Flynn to give the Bruins a 3-0 lead. That would prove to be the game-winning run as the Bruins went on to score three more runs in the inning for a 6-0 lead.
Nickles drove Washington in for the Bruins’ seventh run in the third and Pack drove Kelli Godin in with a single in the sixth to put UCLA up 8-0. Fresno State managed to score twice in the bottom of the sixth for their only runs off Holly Acevedo, who gave up just three hits and two walks en route to a complete game victory.
Hawai’i Rainbow Wahine
The unranked Rainbow Wahine opened their season yesterday with an 8-0 win over Georgia State and leads UT Arlington, 6-2, in the bottom of the fourth inning. Given that Hawai’i’s game against the Mavericks is still only in the fourth as I write this, it looks likely that the start time of the Bruins game will be delayed, possibly by as much as an hour.
The final game of day two of the Hawaii Paradise Classic will feature UCLA and host Hawaii.

Game time scheduled for 7 p.m. HT/9 p.m. PT, but the odds of starting at that time aren't great, as the field is already an hour behind.
