This afternoon, the UCLA softball team plays the second game of this weekend’s three-game series against the Washington Huskies at 2 pm PT in Seattle. This will be the first opportunity to catch this year’s Bruins on TV when the game is televised on the Pac-12 Networks.
Last Time Out
Last night, UCLA won the series opener by a score of 3-0. Rachel Garcia allowed three hits and two walks while striking out nine as she threw a complete game shutout for her eleventh win of the season.
Through the first five innings of the game, both teams had just three hits and a total of six baserunners.
In the top of the sixth, the Bruins were finally able to mount a rally. Kelli Godin singled to start the inning and then stole second. Briana Perez had an infield hit that moved Godin to third, giving UCLA runners on the corners with no outs. Bubba Nickles was able to move Perez to second on a groundout to short. A strikeout by Aaliyah Jordan gave the Huskies two outs. Washington chose to intentionally walk Garcia to load the bases and bring up Taylor Pack, but Pack made them pay. She hit a double to center which cleared the bases and gave the Bruins a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, Garcia went three up and three down to send the game into the seventh inning.
Godin reached on a bunt single with two outs in the top half of the inning, but Briana Perez lined out to end the inning for UCLA.
In the bottom half, the Huskies got their first two batters on as Garcia hit the first batter and walked the second. With the tying run coming to the plate, she proceeded to strike out the next three batters she faced to wrap up the shutout.
The teams meet again this afternoon at 2 pm when the Bruins will have the chance to pick up the series win. If UCLA can get another pitching performance today like they did last night, the Bruins should be able to win today’s game too.
This is your UCLA Bruins vs. Washington Huskies softball game two open thread.
Go Bruins!!!
