Tonight, the #1 ranked UCLA Bruins will host the Cal State Fullerton Titans at 5:00 pm PT at Easton Stadium. UCLA is currently on a 12-game win streak and will be looking for their 13th straight tonight.
Last Time Out
Last night, sophomore Holly Azevedo pitched a shutout at home against the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos, striking out seven and allowing only five hits in six innings.
UCLA was able to open up scoring in the bottom of the first when Briana Perez walked, stole a base, and scored on Aaliyah Jordan’s single to left, putting the Bruins up, 1-0.
The Bruin bats exploded in the third inning. Kelli Godin started the rally when she reached first on an infield single and stole second. Perez’s bunt single moved Godin over to thirdand got a double of her own. Bubba Nickles then hit a grounder that scored Godin and moved Perez to third. The Gauchos walked both Jordan and Rachel Garcia loading the bases and a double by Taylor Pack cleared the bases, making the score 5-0, Bruins. A two-out RBI single by Kinsley Washington brought Pack home made it was 6-0, UCLA, and that would be the final score.
Cal State Fullerton Titans
The Titans come into this game off a 12-5 win over Loyola Marymount and are 20-12 overall. They play much better at home where they are 12-4, but they are only 2-3 on the road.
As a team, Fullerton bats .271, so UCLA should definitely have the advantage on offense, as most of the UCLA roster has double the batting average and only three Titans bat over .300.
It’s also no secret that the Bruin bullpen is stacked with talent in Azevedo, redshirt junior Rachel Garcia, and freshman Megan Faraimo. Fullerton junior Sophie Frost and freshman Dani Martinez have pitched the most for the Titans this year. Frost has an ERA of 2.70 and Martinez comes in at 2.41, both well above that of Garcia and Faraimo.
Game time weather should be the near-perfect California temperature we’ve been waiting for.
This is your UCLA Bruins versus Cal State Fullerton open thread.
Go Bruins!
