Tonight, UCLA softball will take on the UC Berkeley Golden Bears in the first game of a three-game weekend series at 5 pm PT. The Bruins are still on a hot streak, winning 13 in a row including a 5-1 win over Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday.

Last Time Out

On Tuesday, UCLA freshman Megan Faraimo struck out 11 in a complete game against the Cal State Fullerton Titans. The Bruins got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning when, with bases loaded, Briana Perez singled home Anna Vines and Zoe Shaw, putting the Bruins up, 2-0. Bubba Nickles hit one back to the pitcher, but was safe, loading the bases again. A walk by Aaliyah Jordan scored Kelli Godin and it was 3-0, UCLA.

The only run of the game for the Titans came on a solo home run to lead off the fourth. But the Bruins answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. After Perez drew a two-out walk, Bubba Nickles hit her ninth home run of the season to put UCLA ahead 5-1 and that was the final score in this one.

Faraimo earned her ninth win of the season on just three hits and a pair of walks.

UC Berkeley Golden Bears

The Bears are currently on a three-game loss streak, dropping two to #24 Stanford and one to UC Davis. They are 20-12 overall this season and just 1-3 in the Pac-12 so far. Their top batter is Lindsay Rood, who is hitting .474 in 114 at bats with four homers. Pitchers Kamalani Dung and Zoe Conley have ERAs of 2.23 and 3.76 respectively, so once again the pitching advantage goes to the Bruins.

Tonight’s game will have picture perfect California weather, with temps in the low 70s and nothing but blue skies.
