This afternoon, the UCLA softball team looks to complete a weekend sweep of the UC Berkeley Golden Bears when the teams meet for the final game of this weekend’s series at Easton Stadium in Westwood.
Last night, Bruin pitchers Holly Azevedo and Megan Faraimo combined for a five-hit shutout of the Golden Bears as the Bruins beat the Bears for their 15th straight win.
It was a good thing that UCLA’s pitching was so good last night because it was another night that the Bruins’ bats were pretty quiet.
UCLA managed only one run which came in the third inning. Kinsley Washington started things off with a lead-off single and a stolen base. She moved over to third when Jacqui Prober grounded out to second. Kelli Godin hit what should almost be classified as a swinging bunt to short. Berkeley’s Lindsay Rood throw to first was high, allowing Washington to score on the throwing error.
That was all UCLA could muster in terms of offense, but it turned out to be enough, thanks to Azevedo and Faraimo and the Bruins won 1-0. Faraimo earned her tenth win of the season after pitching the final 42⁄3 innings.
Today, UCLA looks for their 16th straight win when the teams wrap-up the series at 1 pm PT. If the Bruins are able to win today, they will have matched the winning streak they started the season with. Today’s game will air on Pac-12 Network Los Angeles.
This is your UCLA vs. UC Berkeley softball game three open thread.
Go Bruins!!!
