Tonight, the UCLA softball team begins their quest for NC #118 when they play the Weber State Wildcats at 8:00 pm PT at Easton Stadium. The University of Missouri Tigers and Cal State Fullerton Titans began their game at 5:30, and the winner of both games will see each other at 3:00 pm PT tomorrow. The losing teams from today’s action will tangle at 5:30 pm PT in an elimination game.
Weber State is 26-19 overall and finished the regular season with a 14-2 conference record. Being the Big Sky Conference 2019 Champions, the Wildcats should not be taken lightly, especially with their three-game win streak at the end of the season to take the conference title. The last time Weber State and UCLA met was in February 2017 in a non-conference doubleheader and the Bruins took both games, scoring a total of 26 runs to Weber State’s two.
The Wildcats boast two players with batting averages over .400, junior Takesha Saltern with a .413 average and freshman Katelyn Whiting with a .500 average. Weber State has three pitchers that they use pretty evenly in Addie Jensen, Tatiana Su’esu’e, and Kate Donaldson. Jensen has the lowest ERA at 2.19, but that can’t hold a candle to the three UCLA pitchers that have an ERA of 2.10 or lower.
The Bruins beat both Missouri and Cal State Fullerton earlier this season. UCLA took down the Tigers on February 22, 11-3 in six innings, and they defeated the Titans, 5-1, on March 26.
Missouri comes in to the regional with a 32-23 overall record. They were 12-12 in SEC play and 0-1 in the SEC tournament. Cal State Fullerton won the Big West Conference title, going 38-16 overall and 18-3 in league play and the Titans come into this regional on a seven-game winning streak.
