UCLA Women’s Basketball: A Top 10 Showdown

#9 UCLA takes on #2 Baylor for their first road game.

@UCLAWBB

UCLA opened their 2016-2017 season with a Bruwin. They defeated Pacific by 27 points by a score of 82-55.

In the first half, the Bruins started off a little slow. They were pulling ahead by only two or three points. In the second half, it was as if a light switch was turned on. In the third quarter alone they scored 33 unanswered points. The fourth quarter saw a bit of a slow down with only 11 points. Nicole Kornet, Monique Billings, and Jordin Canada reached double figures in the game with 15 points each. They could not have planned for a better season opener.

Tonight, #9 UCLA Bruins face off against #2 Baylor Lady Bears. Just their second game into the season and UCLA faces a tough opponent. In their home-opener, Baylor easily defeated their opponent Houston Baptist 118-43. Baylor is the first real test for the Bruins and Baylor themselves. While both teams played faced lesser-ranked teams in their season opener, it will not be a landslide for either team. For the most part, Baylor was able to keep Houston off the scoreboard and exactly that happened for four minutes in the second quarter. However, UCLA has an offense that will not go down easily. They have three players who reached 15 points in the game with other players who contributed to the lopsided score.

It is not going to be an easy second game for UCLA or Baylor. Their defense will have to find a way to keep the others’ offense locked down. UCLA is ready for another top 10 showdown.
