#12 UCLA Women’s Basketball Plays Host to #16 Arizona State

A top four spot in the conference is at stake for the Bruins.

@UCLAWBB

After a sweep of crosstown rival Southern Cal, UCLA stays at home for their next two games against the Arizona schools. Tonight, they host Arizona State. A win can keep them in fourth spot in the conference, continuing to battle the Pac-12 title. A loss will see them slip a spot and the title probably slip from their hands.

They defeated Southern Cal at their home in the first game and wanted nothing more than to close out the second game with a win and a sweet, sweet sweep. This time around, the win came with more of a battle. The Trojans had more help this time around when leading scorer Kristen Simon came back after missing three games due to injury. She was able to help her team have more of an offensive attack. They even had a lead for the majority of the third quarter and kept the Bruins on their toes when they tied the score multiple times. It was a nail-biter until the very end.

Tonight, they face defending co-champions Arizona State. Last season, the Sun Devils tied Oregon State for first in the Pac-12. If it wasn’t for a loss against UCLA, Arizona State would have claimed the title all for themselves. The Bruins stood in their way last season and could do that again tonight.

The Sun Devils have a great defense that the Bruins will have to try to break down. Against Southern Cal, UCLA was 5 for 23 on three-point attempts and just 33% from the field. Without a doubt, their shooting has got to get better, especially when they have to face higher-ranked schools in their conference later in the schedule.

16th-ranked Arizona State will be a tougher opponent than Southern Cal. It is no secret the Bruins have struggled with top-ranked schools and the Sun Devils will be no exception. This game against Arizona State has a lot at stake and UCLA cannot afford to slip up.
