UCLA wraps up the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout against Creighton today after a win in their opening game.
While the Bruins defeated Kansas State 64-55, it wasn’t the dominating performance one was hoping for after their loss to UConn. In fact, it was a pretty sloppy win. The Bruins would go on top with a 6-10 point lead only to let Kansas State come right back into the game. When facing an unranked opponent, especially when you’re ranked in the Top 10, a team should be able to come and take care of business. By the way the Bruins played yesterday, they didn’t look like a Top 10 team.
UCLA took a bit of a hit when Jordin Canada fell into foul trouble. Canada finished the game with four fouls and only 6 points. The senior averages 16 points a game. Last night’s stats were extremely disappointing for her. Lajahna Drummer also got into foul trouble.
Those weren’t UCLA’s only disappointing stats. The Bruins shot just 38% from the field. It’s hard to believe these kinds of numbers are coming from a team who recorded 57% in their season opener.
Maybe I’m being hard on UCLA or maybe I’m not. For a team who was selected to win the conference title and is ranked #4/5 in the nation currently, the Bruins did not look like a strong contender last night. While Creighton should be another win, the Bruins cannot have another sloppy game.
Last season was plagued by inconsistency and UCLA can’t bad habits hurt them this early in the season, it will only get worse as the season progresses.
This is your UCLA Women’s Basketball vs Creighton open thread!
Go Bruins!
