After a dominating first-round game in the NCAA Tournament, UCLA faces Texas A&M at home in the Pauley Pavilion. The Bruins have hopes they can defeat the Aggies and punch their ticket to the Women’s Sweet Sixteen 16 for a second straight year.
UCLA cruised past Boise State. Kelli Hayes scored the first bucket of the game and the Bruins never trailed or tied after that shot. They looked like the Bruin team most have been waiting to see all season long. While the first game was an easy win, tonight’s game against Texas A&M will not be. The Aggies were down by 21 points before mounting a 25-1 run and completing the biggest comeback in NCAA Women’s Tournament history. Texas A&M was led by center Khaalia Hillsman who scored a career-high 27 points and pulled down 9 rebounds while Anriel Howard added 16 rebounds.
UCLA is more than capable of eliminating the Aggies, especially considering that the game is at home in Pauley where the Bruins have won 28 straight. The biggest problem for UCLA could be the fourth quarter. The Bruins need to make sure they get a lead and then stop A&M late in the game, something Penn could not do.
