After meeting in the last game of the regular season, UCLA and Arizona State will meet again in the quarterfinals of the Pac-12 Tournament. This is obviously a game that has more implications than the last.
The Pac-12 Tournament got started yesterday. UCLA begins their journey this afternoon after they earned a first-round bye. They will face Arizona State once again after using a fourth-quarter push to beat them. Last weekend, Arizona State made it difficult for UCLA as they managed to slow down one of the Pac-12’s top offenses.
UCLA definitely has the advantage over Arizona State. By getting the first-round bye, the Bruins are more rested than the Sun Devils. The Sun Devils easily defeated Utah yesterday, 72-54. But, they have to play again today with no days off in between. So, it won’t be surprising if they come out sluggish. It’s in a tournament like this where teams usually show their strength.
A lot more is at stake this time around than last week. A spot in the semi-finals awaits the winner. Arizona State came close to pulling off an upset the last time, but, this week, it will be tougher due to a lack of rest and no home court advantage. UCLA was pinned to win the Pac-12 title earlier in the season. They still have a chance do this. They can’t underestimate this Arizona State team as the Sun Devils stand in the way of a spot in the semi-finals.
