UCLA came into tonight’s game hoping to punch their ticket to the Pac-12 Championship game. Tonight was not their night.
From the beginning, it was a battle. The first quarter was all Oregon while the second was all UCLA. The Beavers led 16-11 at the end of the first quarter.
The reason UCLA dominated in the second was because Oregon State’s Gabriella Hanson got called for her second foul and had to go to the bench. Without her in the game, the Bruins took the lead. The Bruins went on a 10-0 run where Jordin Canada scored six of those. Monique Billings was pretty nonexistent all the first half. Somehow, despite the Oregon State defense, UCLA managed to hold onto a 30-27 lead at the half.
UCLA had 20 minutes left to extend and keep their lead. The second half could not have gone worse. They lost the lead and, while they fought to get it back, it was all for naught. Monique Billings could not find her way back into the game no matter how hard she tried and the Bruins could not find their offense. The Beavers tied the game at 32-32 and didn’t look back as they went up by 6 to end the third quarter.
The fourth quarter was just the dagger in the back. Oregon State extended their lead to as many as 13 points. UCLA tried to comeback, but they weren’t able to get any closer than 9 and the Beavers finished the game up by 10, 63-53.
While this loss does sting, UCLA can now to take advantage of the rest they have before the NCAA Tournament begins.
Go Bruins.
