Tonight, the UCLA women’s basketball team opens their season on the road against the Loyola Marymount Lions at 7:30 pm PT. Tonight’s game won’t be televised, but it will be live streamed on the West Coast Conference website. Streaming info appears in the sidebar.
Last Time Out
In UCLA’s only exhibition game of the season, the Bruins cruised past Westmont, 75-55. Four Bruins finished the game in double figures. Senior guard Japreece Dean led all scorers with 22 points. Kennedy Burke added 16 points while Lauryn Miller and Lindsey Corsaro had 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Corsaro also led the team in both rebounds with ten and assists with seven. Burke led the team defensively with three blocks while Michaela Onyenwere added two of her own.
Loyola Marymount Lions
Last season, the Lions finished the year with a 20-11 overall record and an 11-7 record in West Coast Conference play. They were 1-1 against Pac-12 opponents, beating Arizona and losing to Southern Cal.
LMU returns three seniors who started last season for the Lions in Gabby Green, Bree Alford (no relation to the UCLA men’s coach, although her dad is named Stevie) and Andee Velasco. So, look for this game to be a tougher-than-usual first game of the year.
Outlook
While the Bruins are unranked in the AP poll, they were ranked 23rd in the USA Today Coaches Poll despite the team’s youth. Loyola Marymount will play tough tonight, given that the Lions return three starters.
But that shouldn’t stop the Bruins from winning this one, even if it’s close.
This is your UCLA women’s basketball vs. LMU open thread.
Go Bruins!!!
