After sweeping the Washington schools last weekend, the UCLA Women’s Basketball moved into the Top 10 of both the AP and the USA Today Coaches polls. The Bruins are now ranked ninth in both polls.

Meanwhile, Jordin Canada earned Pac-12 Player of the Week honors for her play last weekend. She averaged 20.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game last week. It is Canada’s second weekly honor this season.

Tonight, the Bruins kick off the start of a rivalry weekend by hosting crosstown rival Southern Cal at Pauley Pavilion. For the UCLA Women’s Basketball team, it’s part of a home-and-home series against the Trojans as UCLA will travel across town to play the Trojans again on Monday night at the Galen Center. Of course, in between, the UCLA Men’s Basketball team will host Southern Cal at Pauley Pavilion tomorrow afternoon.

After sweeping the Washington schools last weekend, UCLA is tied for second place in the Pac-12 standings with Stanford and the Bruins are just one game behind conference leader #6 Oregon.

Of course, the key to a Bruin win tonight is simple: It’s consistency. In general, in the game UCLA has lost, it’s been because they didn’t play consistently well as a team. Even in last weekend’s game against Washington, UCLA struggled to play consistently despite the fact that the Bruins won the game.

But that game was against one of the worst teams in the Pac-12. In Southern Cal, UCLA faces a much better team and, if UCLA takes their foot off the gas, it could spell trouble for the Bruins.
