During the regular season, the UCLA Bruins swept the UC Berkeley Golden Bears. While the Bruins cruised past the Bears by 36 points at Berkeley, at home they won by just 8 points. Regardless, UCLA should have the edge this afternoon.

Last night in the first round of the Pac-12 Women’s Basketball Tournament, 5th-seeded UC Berkeley edged the #11 seed Washington Huskies, 71-68 to advance to today’s game against the Bruins.

Last night, the Golden Bears led 35-30 at the half against the Huskies. But Washington came back from and 11-point deficit in the third and took a one-point lead into the fourth quarter. The Bears took the lead right back as the fourth quarter started. In fact, the Bears went on a 14-3 run to start the fourth and soon had a 10-point lead again with just under six minutes to play.

Over the next six minutes, the Huskies started whittling away at that lead, but it was just too much and they ran out of time, giving the Bears a 71-68 victory.

In other tournament action, Colorado defeated Utah, 76-66 while Southern Cal topped Washington State, 47-44 and ASU cruised past Arizona, 76-47.

UCLA heads into the Pac-12 Women’s Tournament with something to prove because they were picked to finish higher than they actually did.

Having won their final two regular season games at home last weekend, the Bruins will need to make sure they are focused on today’s game against UC Berkeley and avoid looking ahead to tomorrow, which will be hard as Oregon easily beat the Buffaloes, 84-47, in the first game of the early session.
