#11 UCLA Women’s Hoops Hosts Northern Colorado After Destroying Long Beach State, 86-51

The Bruins are crushing their early opponents.

Michaela Onyenwere put up 27 points against Long Beach State last week.

Tonight, Bruin fans will finally have a measuring stick to compare the team against. That’s because #11 UCLA hosts Northern Colorado Bears and the Bears have already played Pac-12 rival #3 Stanford and lost badly, 90-36. Tonight’s tip is at 7 pm PT and can be streamed live.

Last Time Out

Last Thursday, the Bruins hosted Long Beach State and, again, the game was over by halftime as UCLA had scored 52 points by the break and the 49ers would only total 51 for the entire game. Yeah, UCLA could have not taken a shot the entire second half and still won the game. The final was 86-51.

That’s the kind of domination we’re seeing from these ladies.

The Bruins shot 50% in the first quarter and 58.82% in the second. Wow. For the entire game, they finished up shooting 46.5% from the field and 92.9% at the line. The lone miss from the line came in the third quarter when Michaela Onyenwere missed the backend of a pair of free throws, but Lauryn Miller still managed to grab the rebound and the put-back. It was that kind of game for the Bruins.

Onyenwere finished the game with 27 points while Kiara Jefferson added 13 and Chantel Horvat scored 11. Japreece Dean led the team in assists with 11 and almost managed to pull off a triple-double. She finished the game with 8 rebounds and 7 points.

Northern Colorado Bears

After losing to Stanford, 90-36, the Bears are on a bit of a hot streak. Since the game against the Cardinal, they’ve beaten both SMU and Air Force. The Bears are led by junior guard Alexis Chapman, who is averaging 14.4 points per game while freshman guard Kadie Deaton is averaging 12.8 ppg. Freshman forward Alisha Davis leads the Bears in rebounding with 6.6 per game. Freshman guard Jasmine Gayles and senior center Bridget Hintz round out the starting five.

Overall, I’m expecting a game that’s again over by the half and a final score somewhere close to the Long Beach State game, though I wouldn’t mind seeing the Bruins beat the Bears by more than the 54 points Stanford beat them by. But I just don’t see Cori Close embarrassing a team like that and that’s probably a good thing.

This is your UCLA women’s basketball vs. Northern Colorado game thread.

Go Bruins!!!
