#11 UCLA Women’s Basketball Opens Season Against Weber State

Tonight’s game should be an easy one for the Bruins.

UCLA opens the season tonight ranked 11th in the nation.

The UCLA women’s basketball team opens the season tonight ranked 11th in the Preseason AP Top 25 poll. Tonight’s game against Weber State should do little to change that.

That’s because the Wildcats finished last season with a 6-25 record and, even if Weber State has improved, I highly doubt that they’ve improved enough to knock off the Bruins. When your first Division I opponent of the season loses to a Division II school in their exhibition game, you know that your game against them probably won’t be very difficult.

The Wildcats’ best player is probably junior Kayla Watkins who managed to score 19 points in a 58-49 exhibition loss to Western Colorado. Weber State is a team with just two seniors, forward Dominique Williams and center Gina O’Brien and neither one may even play tonight, if the box score from the Wildcats’ game against Western Colorado is any indication.

The only other Wildcat who was close to double figures was redshirt junior Liz Graves, who scored eight points.

Watkins also led the team in rebounds with eight.

Expect a big Bruin win to start the season tonight as long as UCLA isn’t looking ahead to Loyola Marymount on Sunday because the Lions beat them last year.

This is your UCLA women’s basketball season opening open thread.

Go Bruins!!!
