This afternoon, UCLA will honor Chrissy Bard, Lajahna Drummer, Japreece Dean, and Kennedy Burke on Senior Day when the Bruins host the Colorado Buffaloes at Noon PT.
Last Time Out
On Friday, the Bruins topped the Utes, 76-60. UCLA started off the game with a pair of free throws by Michaela Onyenwere, but the Utes responded with an 8-4 run as they took their only lead of the game. Kennedy Burke tied it up 8-8 with five minutes left in the first and, less than a minute later, Lauryn Miller put the Bruins up for good with a jumper that gave them a 10-8 lead. In fact, UCLA ended the first quarter on a 12-0 run, giving the Bruins an 18-8 lead after one.
While UCLA stretched their lead to as many as ten points in the second quarter, Utah rallied back to cut the Bruins’ lead to just three at the half, 30-27.
But, the Bruins weren’t about to let this game slip away. In the third, they stretched their lead to 13 points with 2:01 to go and when the quarter was over, they still led by 11, 56-45.
It was more of the same in the fourth quarter as UCLA stretched their lead again. This time, they increased it to 22 points with 3:29 to go in the game. While UCLA wouldn’t score another point in the time remaining, the scoring ended for the Bruins the same way it began with a pair of free throws by Onyenwere. In the time that was left, the Utes were able to shave UCLA’s lead down to 16, 76-60, but they couldn’t get any closer.
Onyenwere led the Bruins with 29 points to match her career high and 13 rebounds. Kennedy Burke scored 19 while Japreece Dean and Lajahna Drummer both had 10. In addition to Onyenwere, Dean also had a double-double with 10 assists in the game.
The Bruins wrap-up the regular season this afternoon against the Colorado Buffaloes. The Buffs have had a rough season. They’ve only won two conference games and are 12-16 on the year.
Today’s game should be an easy win for the Bruins as they look to secure fourth place in the Pac-12 and a first round bye in the Pac-12 Tournament.
