After winning their season opener last weekend against Arkansas, the #8 UCLA Gymnastics team heads to Norman, Oklahoma to take on the #2 Oklahoma Sooners.
The Sooners are the defending national champions. Last weekend, Oklahoma began its title defense by defeating then-#3 Alabama 197.75-196.70 at home. The Sooners have an 82-4 home record which includes 20 straight victories that dates back to 2014.
As a result, the Bruins will need to perform better than they did last weekend against the Arkansas Razorbacks when UCLA posted low scores on the beam and the floor. The team’s scores on the beam and the floor almost cost them last week’s meet and another performance like that certainly will not get them a victory against the defending national champs who defeated the Bruins twice last season, once in the last meet of the regular season and again in the Super Six.
Today’s meet will feature four World Champions. UCLA’s Madison Kocian and Kyla Ross were teammates on Team USA's 2014 world champion team while Kocian was a teammate of OU’s Maggie Nichols and Brenna Dowell on Team USA’s 2015 world champion team.
