On Saturday, the UCLA gymnastics team traveled to #5 Utah for Pac 12 bragging rights and fell by just .375 in the end. The meet was highlighted by yet another perfect 10 by Kyla Ross on uneven bars, and Stella Savvidou’s career best and JaNay Honest’s season high scores in that event. After the first rotation, the two teams were dead even.

In the second rotation, the Utes pulled ahead by just .2, and in rotation three, the Bruins suffered a fall, but bounced back in rotation four with a season high score on balance beam by Hallie Mossett. However, Utah had five scores of 9.9 or better, including three 9.95s, taking the meet in the end by a small margin. In case you missed it because you were watching the basketball game against Southern Cal, here are video highlights of Saturday’s meet, courtesy of UCLA Athletics.

The Bruins host the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights and Utah State Aggies in a tri-meet on today at 1:00 at Pauley Pavillion. Bridgeport is coming off of a second place finish at the Big Red Invitational hosted by Cornell, which also included Ithaca and SUNY Brockport. Freshman Maya Reimers and Nina Whittaker earned weekly ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) Division II honors for their performance at that meet, where Reimers finished first on beam and Whittaker scored a personal best 9.8 on vault. Bridgeport was edged by Cornell by 1.225.

Utah State (5-4) is coming off a season high score of 196.300, falling by just .400 to #7 Boise State. Long Beach native, Elle Golison, will be competing for Utah State, and has finished in the top three ten times this season. Teammate Madison Ward has eight event titles this year, with six of them coming on the floor. The Aggies have not seen UCLA in competition since 1979, and the last time Utah State and Bridgeport met was in 2012, where Bridgeport edged the Aggies by just .375.
